When you come to a road like this, Take It!!!

I've ridden all over this area, but today I'm finding roads I haven't ridden before. This is Eagle Lake just north of Susanville, CA but viewed from the west and less travelled side.

Some friends paid me a surprise visit.

I was taught to always keep the place clean, you never know when unexpected guest will arrive.

There sure are a lot of lakes up here that are ten to twenty miles in length.



There were several of these rolls of fencing alongside of the road. I reminded me of an encounter I had with one at 70 mph back in NC.

Even though I have been know to off-road the Wing on an occasion or two, I repressed the impulse today!

I must admit, I enjoyed this view as much as that of the falls!

It cost $10 to drive in and take a picture of the falls!

I thought that was ridiculous!

So I took 200 pics of them.

Only $.05 a piece!

Guess I showed them!

All vacations must share this experience!

First time I have ever entered Crater Lake from the south.

These are steam vents created during the time after the eruption.

Kind of cool

My first view today. Probably been here ten times in my life. Actually rode my chopper up here when I was 19.

I took a lot of pictures but I'm not going to caption them all. Just the ones that need captioning, you know just in case I happen to be in them.

Some of you have asked what I've been up to lately so I better update a bit. This morning Jeannie and I picked a couple pounds of blackberries until it started getting too warm. The ripe ones are delicious, the red ones will make you pucker! This is my grandson Steffen we spent 15 days putting in a new irrigation system on his 1.6 acres of land. I took these two pictures to show him what it will look like eventually. They are of my 1/2 acre yard that started out the same way 25 years ago.   On our way back to Portland, Jeannie and I stopped to visit Patience, her daughter Shannon, and father Ken. I started out on my trip this morning at 0 dark thirty in order to beat the oppressive heat that we have been having. It worked even though it was 94 degrees, not having the sun beating down on me made it possible to ride in comfort. I usually stop for gas here just before hooking up with Sherm. Today it's my first stop for fuel and the first time I have filled this bike since removing the fill tube in the neck of the tank. I see that I can put in about 1 quart more than I ever was before. I have to be sure not to do that anymore as it not good for the overflow cannister or something like that. It's 7:00 AM and I've been on the road over 3 hours. I stopped for a couple of chicken tacos so I could take some much needed aspirin. While waiting for my food I had a nice visit from a officer from homeland security. While he never mentioned his political leanings I could sure tell that he wasn't happy with the way our country is going. No, I didn't take his picture. As I w

Usually when we make our usual Presidents Day ride to Death Valley, our rides in the Valley are so spirited that we really never get to see too much of the scenery. However, this year there was an absence of testosterone supplements so  a vote was taken and I was asked to lead the first days ride. Actually, no vote was taken and after some begging and yelling me me me me, pick me, they let me lead. My good friend Sherm had gifted me a signed copy of Roger Naylor's Death Valley that showed so much of what the park had to offer. I told the guys about the coke ovens and off we went. The first 52 miles of riding was a great little road with pretty smooth pavement, but two miles short of the ovens and it all turned to loose gravel. Four of the group turned around and said they would wait for us at Stovepipe Wells. Dale and I continued on and arrived at the ovens very dusty, but otherwise no problems.
