When I was a kid, Jack Webb (I think) would open Dragnet with the words, "This is the city"  The composition has changed but the shot is generally from the same area. I got there because WAZE sent me on a wild goose chase this morning. For me, it was fun.

When I arrived at my sister Eldonna's, all of her chickens were still in jail.

I freed them all on the condition we would play a little game.

We took a vote and Fred won!

I put Chance in charge of keeping Fred away from the others so he couldn't cheat!

My sister was busy checking all was good to go........We are having Chicken Al Fredo!

Some of you have asked what I've been up to lately so I better update a bit. This morning Jeannie and I picked a couple pounds of blackberries until it started getting too warm. The ripe ones are delicious, the red ones will make you pucker! This is my grandson Steffen we spent 15 days putting in a new irrigation system on his 1.6 acres of land. I took these two pictures to show him what it will look like eventually. They are of my 1/2 acre yard that started out the same way 25 years ago.   On our way back to Portland, Jeannie and I stopped to visit Patience, her daughter Shannon, and father Ken. I started out on my trip this morning at 0 dark thirty in order to beat the oppressive heat that we have been having. It worked even though it was 94 degrees, not having the sun beating down on me made it possible to ride in comfort. I usually stop for gas here just before hooking up with Sherm. Today it's my first stop for fuel and the first time I have filled this bike since removing the fill tube in the neck of the tank. I see that I can put in about 1 quart more than I ever was before. I have to be sure not to do that anymore as it not good for the overflow cannister or something like that. It's 7:00 AM and I've been on the road over 3 hours. I stopped for a couple of chicken tacos so I could take some much needed aspirin. While waiting for my food I had a nice visit from a officer from homeland security. Usually when we make our usual Presidents Day ride to Death Valley, our rides in the Valley are so spirited that we really never get to see too much of the scenery. However, this year there was an absence of testosterone supplements so  a vote was taken and I was asked to lead the first days ride. Actually, no vote was taken and after some begging and yelling me me me me, pick me, they let me lead. My good friend Sherm had gifted me a signed copy of Roger Naylor's Death Valley that showed so much of what the park had to offer. I told the guys about the coke ovens and off we went. The first 52 miles of riding was a great little road with pretty smooth pavement, but two miles short of the ovens and it all turned to loose gravel. Four of the group turned around and said they would wait for us at Stovepipe Wells. Dale and I continued on and arrived at the ovens very dusty, but otherwise no problems.
