First official evening of the Rally


It's always so much fun catching up with these folk!

Of course I have to be sure of which ones I can let my great granddaughter mingle with! Okay, kid, I think they are all safe.

July 7th and the group ride will be the Montrose, Ridgeway, Mancos, Durango, Silverton, Ouray loop.

Most of the towns up here are from the turn of the last century.

The old galloping Goose gave a lot of tourist rides up and down the tracks.


Quick fuel stop and a little visit.


After a few miles more we stop for lunch in Mancos


Pretty good Mexican food for this far north of the border.

Riding north from Durango the Million Dollar Hwy is gorgeous.

This was an accident where a motorhome appeared to have left the highway.

Underway again!









I think Ouray, but could be Silverton.

It is a canyon of black rock that has some vertical drops of over 2,000 feet!

There was a terrible accident today and air life choppers were deployed.


A lady missed a curve while lookin at the scenery and went where she looked.

She ended up where the bottom of that smoke is.

Unfortunately, she lost her life. Why we need to be prepared!

This has been a very warm day. Save for the climb back up a jump into that pool might be refreshing.

Being her grandpa, I had her draw Sherm's number three times.

I was looking for an awesome sunset this evening but this was all I got. Penny rented a suite here for the week so I've been mooching  I was a little early heading to Hebo this morning so I took a little detour through Neskowin. Some of you have asked what I've been up to lately so I better update a bit. This morning Jeannie and I picked a couple pounds of blackberries until it started getting too warm. The ripe ones are delicious, the red ones will make you pucker! This is my grandson Steffen we spent 15 days putting in a new irrigation system on his 1.6 acres of land. I took these two pictures to show him what it will look like eventually. They are of my 1/2 acre yard that started out the same way 25 years ago.   On our way back to Portland, Jeannie and I stopped to visit Patience, her daughter Shannon, and father Ken. She loves adventure, hope I'm around someday to at least take her on a little one! Just a small part of Steffen's irrigation system. As we rode into the park today, the military was testing some new top secret flying saucers. They have gotten very good at hiding them inside of little clouds. This is the lowest point in the lower 48 states. It may surprise you that the highest point in the lower 48 is only about 50 miles away. It's not really bad, just salty. It's crystal clear According to my higher math, I've calculated that sign to be 282' above my head. On further analysis, that should be above the bottom of my feet. Not Bad Tried to wash his hand in it, now has a BAD hand. Hundreds of people make this pilgrimage every day. Dale drank the water and now he is just plain BAD. After all of these years, I finally got to play a few holes on the Devils Golf Course. Dale was in Hog Heaven with his own personal salt lick. Dale is putting out on the first hole.
